Notable Changes From The Previous Year
The new Highlander comes with an improved 2.4-litre turbocharged gas engine. This engine delivers more torque capacity, horsepower, and better fuel efficiency. Performance Specs
The new gas engine has an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can deliver 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque capacity. The enhanced torque capacity turns the new Highlander into a much more responsive and efficient vehicle. It has a combined fuel efficiency of 9.8L/100km while also reducing CO2 emissions significantly.
The hybrid version combines a 2.5-litre VVT engine with a pair of electric motor-generators. It’s sightlessly less powerful, with 243 horsepower and 3,499 pounds of towing capacity. This version is even more fuel-efficient, though, with a combined consumption of 6.7L/100km.
Design Elements
The third row of seats is foldable for expanded cargo capacity in all models. The middle row is also reclinable for the LE and XLE. The front seats are heated in all models, but only the Limited has heated and ventilated front and second rows when buying the Platinum package. Every trim has a tri-zone independent climate control system and cabin air filter.
Exclusive details on the exterior design will help differentiate one trim from the other. The Limited is the only option with a panoramic moonroof, although the XSE has a tilt/slide moonroof, sport grilles and bumpers, topped by smoked headlamp/taillamp surrounds. The XLE also has a tilt/slide moonroof, but it’s sided by silver-painted roof rails.
Technology And Safety Features
All trims up to the Limited have a standard 8-inch touchscreen display. In contrast, the flagship model comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display from the factory. The multimedia system OTA updates, cloud navigation, updated traffic information, and destination assist. The Limited also has a luxurious sound system: the JBL Premium Audio, with 11 speakers and 1,200 watts.
The award-winning safety system has multiple airbags and a backup camera, plus a long list of driving assists. You can count on a pre-collision system, pedestrian detection, lane tracing, lane departure warning with steering assist, road sign assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and blindspot monitoring.
